nybbl

biography
Born and raised in Rochester, New York,
Tim Quackenbush remembers blissfully abusing his father's guitar
while still sporting diapers - somewhere there are pictures
to back this up. A handful of years later he found himself fascinated
by the effects of flicking the magical 'PAN' knob back and forth
while listening to 'Yellow Submarine' - Music only! Now singing
only!
Years passed again, and after a handful
of false starts and about-faces around the east coast, he eventually
found himself attending OIART in London, Ontario for a degree
in audio engineering. Taking up residence in Toronto upon completion,
his many years of 4-track experiments, guitar noodlings,
and computer love coalesced into his current explorations in
electronic music. Soon he began to make connections with some
of the other local bedroom producers, helping to create the
'bit_rock alumnae', a collective dedicated to showcasing the
numerous hidden talents in electronic music in and around Toronto.
A number of online releases through the Manchester, UK based
netlabel Hippocamp served as an introduction to nybbl's musical
adventures; stretching across a varied landscape of styles and
moods, and paving the way for his 2005 Noise
Factory Records debut, 'The Path From A Point Is In The Shape
Of A Heart.
The most head-scratch inducing query nybbl comes up against
is 'What kind of music do you make?' 'Electronic based, guitar
heavy, post-post-rock-ish, IDM?' The string of adjectives and
descriptions come streaming out but none seem to sum it up concisely.
It is warm and flowing. It is as alive and vibrant as the spring
but calm and sparkling like a perfect winter day. A defiant
and still center surrounded by dancing chaos; a soft and chewy
center with a hard candy shell.
SSimply put - if we are still allowed to have anything simple
in this world - it is music. There isn't the scrutinising worry
about giving it a catchy name or concocting a revolutionary
artistic manifesto. All he can do is press the keys, hit the
strings, turn the knobs, and pull all the insides out to find
something glowing at the core - broadcasting the results for
whoever is listening.
