Joe English on the next Noise Factory release:
"First a word about Beef Terminal….The music of Beef Terminal helped to define and establish the label as legitimate outlet for post-rock experimental music in Canada and around the world. Oddly enough Beef Terminal’s albums are now gaining a cultish and true underground following as people continue to discover the albums. Out of all of our releases, it’s the music of Beef Terminal that continues to evolve and find willing listeners. So when Mike said he had a new project in The Sales Department I was more than intrigued.
The music of the Sales Department is a departure from the sonic and effects laden guitar work of Beef Terminal, but Mr. Matheson has managed to keep the intensity and emotion. I do hear a guitar in the music every now and again but it is no longer the focus. There is a heavier electronic feel to the music and it’s somewhat reflective of some of my old industrial electronic albums. The pounding beats, atmospheric and ambient layers with this strange 80’s industrial feel is the new sound being developed. It’s all coming together in one sound. This is not IDM or synth pop or techno or minimal techno…to be honest I don’t how it should be classified. It’s all those things I guess, but it’s not pretentious or unlistenable. As with Beef Terminal, the music is still designed to reflect life in the urban and suburban landscapes. The dichotomy of the messy city and the clean cut lawns of the suburbs. This is music for travelling between opposing worlds. At least this is what the music is for me…. As always you should listen and decide for yourself – download it or buy it from an indie retailer in your area or order it online. Enjoy!”
The Sales Department will be celebrating the launch of the album with a live performance at Wavelength on Sunday September 27th here in Toronto. Also, please visit thesalesdepartment.ca.
